Two pictures of Tim taken shortly before he was killed near Renacci, a village on high ground north of
the River Arno. Jimmy Stephens a great friend of Tim wrote to Granny:
"It was during an attack that Tim so tragically met his end. He was given a very important task of getting on to a hill, and
with great courage and determination set out to fulfil it....I know it would help you to know he died instantly and felt no
pain. He was buried by the side of the road, and though unfortunately I was not present at the funeral, I went along
afterwards. I managed to gather a huge bunch of wild flowers, white yellow and mauve and put them on his grave. They
really looked very lovely and I think it is what Tim would have desired, he was so fond of wild creatures, and anything to do
with the countryside. I can't tell you how it hurts to tell you all this, and I feel very deeply for you. There is one thing we can
be thankful for, he had a very happy life. He was so gay and imaginative and loved by all. I shall always cherish the
memories of time spent with him and the fun we had. I feel he would want us to carry on as before, so we must bear it
bravely. My heartfelt sympathies to you and your family."
