visited the Flowers in Stratford and his friends included Oliver Wendell Holmes, famous judge in the US
Supreme Court, and the American poets Emerson and Longfellow. Edgar's wife Isabella who was said to have
a voice like a nightingale once sang to Longfellow, playing her own accompaniments to his poem "I Shot an
Arrow in the Air". He had never heard it put to music and was quite overcome since he had written it for his
deceased wife.
